The health of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund (MMI) continued to improve in 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) fiscal year (FY) 2021 report to Congress. The fund’s overall capital ratio for fiscal 2021 was 8.03%, an increase of 1.93 percentage points compared with a capital ratio of 6.10% in fiscal 2020.

Also, NAR forecasts to have $160 million in operating reserves at the end of 2021, a more than threefold leap from the $50 million in reserves at 2020s end.

Compared to September 2021, applications increased by 6%.
