Regions Bank is looking to make a big dent in the home improvement lending space , striking a deal to acquire EnerBank USA for $960 million in cash. EnerBank, a Utah-based subsidiary of publicly traded CMS Energy , has loan balances totaling $2.8 billion as of March 31, 2021 and is one of America’s largest specialized home improvement lenders.

The share of mortgages in COVID-19-related forbearance plans fell to 4.16% of servicers’ portfolio volume during the week ended May 30, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) latest Forbearance and Call Volume Survey. However, the pace of forbearance exits continues to be sluggish: That’s down from 4.18% the previous week. As of the end of the month, roughly 2.1 million homeowners were still in forbearance plans, according to the MBA.

It was barely a year ago that Angel Oak Mortgage and the rest of the non-QM lenders were holding on for dear life. Now, the Atlanta-based lender is looking to raise $165 million as part of an independent public offering. Angel Oak Mortgage, managed by parent company Angel Oak Capital and Falcon I , is looking to boost its book of business with the capital raise, the lender said in an S-1 statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission late last week.

The nation’s mortgage delinquency rate is inching closer to its pre-pandemic level as early stage delinquencies improve. CoreLogic says that in March of this year 4.9 percent of all mortgages were 30 days or more past due, including loans in foreclosure. This is the lowest rate since March 2021, the month the pandemic hit, and the rate was 3.6 percent.

The count of open construction jobs increased in April to 357,000 unfilled positions, according to data from the BLS Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). The housing market remains hot and requires additional labor, lots and lumber and building materials to add inventory. Overall, hiring in the construction sector slowed in April, declining to a 4.5% rate.
