CFPB warns servicers it’s watching closely, again

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau today said that they are closely monitoring how servicers conduct themselves to help borrowers avoid foreclosures. Lorelei Salas, assistant director for supervision policy at the CFPB, wrote in a blog post that the CFPB will be closely monitoring complaints of servicers not giving borrowers the option or time to apply for the Homeowners Assistance Fund (HAF).

Post submission of an appraisal report ordered by an AMC for lending purposes, a quality control check of the report will be completed. Once the AMC deems the report satisfactory, it is forwarded to their client, the lender. The lender will run the report through automated underwriting and may have a QC process of their own.

Cash-out refis starting to slow despite equity gains

Mortgage origination activity took a major hit in February, with rate hikes squeezing out refinance activity , both for rate-term refis and cash-outs. Overall origination activity in February was down 5.4% from January, according to the latest monthly Mortgage Monitor report from Black Knight. Purchase locks, which are not as rate-sensitive as refinancings , were up 7.2% in February over the prior month, with volumes up 5.6% from the same time last year.
