Affordable housing inventory is limited due to foreclosure prevention efforts

In the three years prior to the pandemic, completed foreclosure auctions represented a potential affordable housing supply of 250,000 homes a year on average, according to public record data from ATTOM. That would represent a roughly 12% boost to the overall supply of single-family homes that were produced by new home builders in 2022.
