The Federal Housing Administration announced on Wednesday the launch of its first automated underwriting system that will allow lenders to submit loan application data electronically for single family forward mortgages from their loan origination systems to FHA for mortgage insurance eligibility. It is modernization of the entire process.

The Federal Housing Administration on Thursday said it would pause the mandatory effective date for its electronic appraisal delivery module because it is “reassessing aspects of [its] development and implementation.”. It would also permit lenders to electronically submit, track and manage single-family property appraisals.

Due to the shortage of review appraisers (exacerbated by low fees and time pressures), tens of thousands of poorly created appraisals were accepted without receiving adequate review. Many appraisers were bragging about their ability to fill out two or three appraisal forms a day and receive no call-backs from lenders. .
