Decorating your living room with traditional wall art is a great way to infuse some personality and character into your home. However, it’s easy to make mistakes when buying traditional wall art that can detract from the overall look and feel of your living room. In this article, we’ll take a look at some common mistakes people make when buying traditional wall art and how you can avoid them so that your living room can look absolutely spectacular.

Miscalculating the size

One of the most common mistakes people make when buying traditional wall art is not considering the size of the artwork. Before you make a purchase, it’s essential to measure the wall space you have available and consider how the artwork will fit within that space. Choosing artwork that is too small or too large can throw off the balance of your living room and make the space feel cluttered or empty.

Here is a good example of some artwork that is well-balanced.

To avoid this mistake, carefully measure your wall space and choose artwork that fits within those measurements. If you’re unsure about the size of the artwork, create a mock-up of the piece using newspaper or painter’s tape to get a better sense of how it will look on your wall.

Not considering the color scheme

Another common mistake people make when buying traditional wall art is not thinking about the color scheme of their living room. Choosing artwork that clashes with your existing decor can make your living room feel disjointed and uncoordinated as if you hadn’t given it any thought.

Start looking at the colors in your living room when selecting your artwork and look for pieces that complement or contrast with your existing color scheme to create a cohesive look.

Not using your personal style

When buying traditional wall art, it’s important to choose pieces that reflect your personal style and taste. Many people make the mistake of buying artwork that they think will impress others or because it’s trendy, but this can result in a living room that doesn’t feel authentic and may just be plain ugly.

Whether you want to use Seascape Wall Art of unique portraits, select art pieces that you personally love and that reflect your personality. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles and mediums to create a look that is unique to you.

Not considering the placement

Finally, the last mistake people make when buying traditional wall art is not thoughtfully considering the placement of the artwork. Choosing the wrong place for your artwork can make your living room design fall apart.

Either way, think about the focal point of your living room and how the artwork will complement or enhance that focal point. Everything is supposed to work together like instruments in an orchestra. Measure the exact height at which you want to hang the artwork and how it will interact with other elements in the room, such as furniture or lighting.

Hanging art and choosing the right place for everything isn’t something everyone excels at however and may be a good reason why you should hire an interior designer to help you with your art placement.
