Festive Lights, through Jan. 22
Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo hosts WildLanterns each year. It features “large-scale animal and nature scape lanterns representing wild places from around the globe,” including bugs, dinosaurs, tigers, peacocks and dragons. A great family treat. Free parking. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and most Mondays. Tickets. 4-9pm

Designer trees, Nov. 18-30
The holidays come early at the Fairmont Olympic hotel in downtown Seattle. See designer holiday trees and view the Teddy Bear Suite upstairs. Free. Donations for Seattle Children’s Hospital are welcome. Learn more about purchasing your own designer tree.

Turkey Trots, Nov. 19, 24
It’s that time of year. Time for the annual Turkey Trot. Catch 5K events at Green Lake on Nov. 19 and in Issaquah and Magnuson Park on Nov. 24, Thanksgiving Day.

Gingerbread houses, Nov. 21-Jan. 1
See elaborate houses created mostly of food (yum!) at the Gingerbread Village. Visit for the holidays, at the Sheraton Grand Seattle. Donations go to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Thanksgiving dinner, Nov. 24

Christmas tree lighting, Nov. 25-Dec. 3
Get the kiddos bundled up and head out to see free tree-lighting ceremonies. Events take place across King County, including Seattle hotspots Westlake Center, Pike Place Market and Alaska Junction. There are also lighting ceremonies in Auburn, Bellevue,, Kent and Renton (Nov. 19).

Winter at Seattle Center, Nov. 25-Dec. 31
It wouldn’t be the holidays without the lights, carolers and action at Seattle Center. Visit throughout December for Winterfest, with live music, food, model trains, dancers and more. The month will be capped by Rock in the New Year, a pair of signature events at the Seattle Armory and International Fountain. (No word yet on a fireworks show at the Space Needle at midnight.) Free to attend.

Holidays at the fairground, Dec. 1-4, 8-11, 15-18, 20-23
Holiday Magic will be on display at the Washington State Fair Events Center in Puyallup. Come and see the lights, interactive displays, food & drink, train rides, ice skating and laser light show. An annual family must-see event. Free parking (green lot). 4:30-9:30pm

Bavarian Christmas, Dec. 3-24
Leavenworth knows how to take the Christmas season to a different level. Plan your trip to the Bavarian-themed city and its Christmastown events, including sleigh rides (weather permitting), caroling, festive lights and traditional holiday treats. Every day is special.

Boat parade, Dec. 9
It may be chilly outside but there is no stopping the annual  Christmas Ship Parade of Boats along the Fremont Cut and Fremont Canal Park. Or join viewing parties in Evanston Plaza (Evanston Avenue North and North Northlake Way). From about 8:15pm.
