Mortgage applications decreased 4% for the week ending July 16, just one week after applications jumped 16% on the strength of falling mortgage rates. The 10-year Treasury yield dropped sharply last week, in part due to investors becoming more concerned about the spread of COVID variants and their impact on global economic growth, according to the latest survey from the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Home values within a short commute of the country’s biggest downtown job centers are growing more slowly than those farther out, a new analysis from Zillow and HERE Technologies shows. Homes within a 10-minute commute of a metro’s downtown job center are among the most expensive in 18 of the 35 metros included in the analysis, yet these areas had the fastest-growing home values in nine of those metros as of 2017.

Seventeen percent of American adults are considering the purchase of a home within a year, according to NAHB’s Housing Trends Report for the second quarter of 2021. The share (now seasonally-adjusted) has increased for five consecutive quarters, after hitting a series low of 10% in the first quarter of 2020. The Noose is hung and… When Dodd Frank was implemented lenders started using appraisal management companies, eliminating appraisers relationships basically overnight. Appraisers embraced the change reluctantly and started accepting assignments from appraisal management companies. Over the years appraisal management companies showed their true colors and lowered fees, required appraisers to pay upload fees and forced many appraisers to pay for unnecessary back ground checks.

Mortgage application volume decreased 4.0% on an adjusted basis during the week ended July 16, as the average rate for a 30-year increased to 3.11%, up from 3.09%, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) Weekly Applications Survey. The previous week’s results included an adjustment for the Fourth of July holiday. Applications for refinances decreased 3% compared with the previous week while applications for purchases decreased 6%.
