Valuation Expo 2022 Recap

Valuation Expo 2022 at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas was a record-breaking success! With our highest numbers recorded for attendance in the last 10 years, Valuation Expo provided everyone with the connections they wanted and need to build their business. Attendees had endless opportunities to learn, network, and prosper with informative sessions, CE courses, and a jam packed Trade Show Floor with over 40 exhibitors. Here is a quick recap of how the show went for those that couldn’t make it and want to find out what they missed.

Recession Proofing Your Appraisal Business was a timely session sponsored by True Footage, featuring Blaine Feyen. Blaine shared the essentials of website management, developing a strong Google profile, building the vital systems in your business to increase capacity, and shorten turn times. Vendors and Lenders Live featured over 20 speakers and allowed for quick demos on the newest products and services, in addition to insights from lenders on how to thrive on their panels.

The Appraiser Diversity Initiative: How the Industry is Attracting New Entrants and Fostering Appraiser Diversity session was sponsored by Solidifi and featured 15 speakers speaking to the benefits of supporting a trainee. Speakers included ADI Partners, the lender perspective, and a “fireside” chat with supervisors and trainees.

McKissock offered a 3-hour course entitled Learning from the Mistakes of Others: Appraisal Disciplinary Case Studies with Mel Black as the instructor. Mel, an attorney and seasoned appraisal educator, used real-life case studies to demonstrated how appraisers can avoid making the same mistake. Renowned USPAP instructor, Bryan Reynolds of Appraiser eLearning, taught the 7-Hour update and never fails to make it interesting.

The Trade Show Opening Reception featured Hot-Sauce the band! We had a great time jamming out while attendees took turns joining them onstage. We also had our Corn Hole Tournament sponsored by Accurate Group.

Pictured above are the first place winners of the Corn Hole Tournament: Paul Rowe and Cody James!

We always start off the continuing education with the Keynote Panel featuring Lyle Radke of Fannie Mae and Scott Reuter of Freddie Mac. Michael Schnetzler gave details on the USDA program while Jim Park provided insights into what’s happening at the Appraisal Subcommittee. The afternoon session continued with the Appraiser Town Hall. In this session, we assembled a panel of “subject matter experts” to respond to questions about the most pressing appraisal issues today. Our speakers included John Brenan, Clear Capital; Jeremy Staudenmaier, First American; Erin Reed, ServiceLink; and Rick Langdon, Wells Fargo.

On Friday, we broached the question everyone is wondering about… Will the market go Boom or Bust? There was a lively debate about where this housing market is heading. The presenters included John Dingeman, Class Valuation; Shawn Telford, CoreLogic; Lee Trice, Opteon; and Tobias Peter, American Enterprise Institute.

Valuation Expo wrapped up with Gold Standard Appraisal Report and attendees learned the “do’s and don’ts” of appraisal report writing. The presenters were Craig Capilla, Franklin, Greenswag, Shannon & Capilla, LLC; Kim Perotti, AXIS Appraisal Management Solutions; Hal Humphreys, Appraiser eLearning; and Susan Alley, Appraisal Aid.

We want to take some time to highlight some of our sponsors who went out of their way to make the appraisers comfortable at the show. Class Valuation and Clear Capital were our platinum sponsors. Voxtur sponsored the attendee bags and gave totes to everyone. Cubicasa was our lanyard sponsor, and we can’t forget Consolidated Analytics who provided WiFi for all attendees. ValueLink and McKissock sponsored lunch and coffee was sponsored by Pearl Certification and Walitt Solutions. Home Vision provided beautiful reusable metal water bottles for attendees to refill and keep hydrated at the show. Valuation Connect sponsored a photographer who took professional headshots for anyone that wanted them for free. Appraiser eLearning graciously provided notepads for everyone in the CE sessions and Amrock was our official pen sponsor at the show.

And we can’t forget one of the best parts about the Valuation Expo Trade Show … the Appraisal Bee! Every year our sponsors give away some amazing prizes to our attendees. See the list below of who left Vegas a big winner.
