2023 Colors of the Year

There is a very informative article on bhg.com, written by Caitlin Sole, Every 2023 Color of the Year We Know So Far. Sole stares that "2023 is all about self-expression."

The most neutral Color of the Year is called Blank Canvas, by Behr. It is a creamy shade of white that will go with everything. Behr's goal is, "The warm neutral stands out from the icy modern hues popular in the past." Erika Woelfel, Vice President of Color and Creative Servies at Behr stated in a press release, "Blank Canvas effortlessly offers a clean and inviting blank slate that allows individuality and creativity to flow freely. The white easily harmonizes with a wide range of hues, including neutrals, earth tones, and pastels, for a charming and cozy appeal."

Sherwin-Williams announced a color called Redend Point as their Color of the Year. This color is a blend of blush and beige with pink undertones to warm up walls. It is an earth tone that is intended to "bring comfort and joy to interior spaces."

The Better Homes & Gardens brand at Walmart announced Canyon Ridge as their Color of the Year. They share, "Reminiscent of Southwestern landscapes, Canyon Ridge is an orange-meets-pink paint color that acts as a near-neutral when applied to walls. It is a trendy spin on terra-cotta.

Vining Ivy is the Color of the Year announced by Glidden. "Vining Ivy blends blue and green for a tranquil backdrop." It has an "energizing yet grounding feel."

Rustic Greige is Dutch Boy's Color of the Year. This gray and beige mix is a "cozy, goes-with-everything color." It is supposed to "pair well with today's trending earth-tone paint colors."

How 2023 Colors are Different From 2022 Colors of the Year

According to the article on bhg.com, "the hues of 2022 centered around back-to-nature shades of green." For example, Benjamin Moore's pick for Color of the Year in 2022 was a silvery green called October Mist. Gray hues were also still trending in 2022. 2023 hues are more neutral, warm earth-tones. Decorating with these warmer, earth tones may help increase your home value this year.

How to Integrate Them into Your Home

Blank Slate is perfect for wall colors. Be sure your ceilings are a brighter shade of white so the walls pop and show the warmth of the color. Redend Point is perfect for an accent wall to exhibit an earth-tone feel. Jessica Thomas, a BHG style director shares, "Try Canyon Ridge on DIY artwork, built-ins or even your ceiling for a subtle splash of cozy, desert-inspired color." The bhg.com article recommends, "Pair the blue-green jewel tone (Vining Ivy) with wood finishes, stone accents, and rich textures for a room that borrows from the outdoors. Or opt for smaller doses of Vining Ivy on trim, furniture, or cabinetry for a subtle dose of the soothing paint color." Rustic Greige "wraps a room in warmth, making it perfect for kitchens, bedrooms, and family spaces alike."
