What else is happening in and around your Seattle?

Louvre Museum, anytime
I highly recommend an in-person visit to the Louvre in Paris, but it may make sense to wait another year or so. Prepare for that trip by taking a virtual tour of the world’s largest art museum. With more than 400,000 objects, you will want to review as many as you can in the preceding months and go with a plan!

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
One of the coolest – well, steamiest – park adventures in America can be found on the Big Island. That’s home to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Not ready to visit or just don’t want to risk walking on a steam vent (I almost did that when I visited!), then check out the virtual tour – anytime.

Juneteenth Week, now through June 19
This year marks this state’s first official Juneteenth holiday, marking the symbolic end of slavery in the U.S. on June 19. The state encourages that this be a day (or a week) to engage in fellowship with African-Americans, to revisit our solidarity and commitment to antiracism, educate ourselves about slave history and continue having conversations that uplift every Washingtonian. In that spirit, Juneteenth Week will hold events across the state and in our region. Track those events here.

The Unspoken Truths, June 18-21
Delbert Richardson and his national award-winning American History Traveling Museum: The Unspoken Truths is at the Museum of History and Industry for Juneteenth. With the use of authentic artifacts, storyboards and the ancient art of storytelling, Richardson teaches American History through an Afrocentric lens. His exhibit is broken into four sections: Mother Africa, American Chattel Slavery, The Jim Crow Era and Still We Rise. Visit the MOHAI website for information on timed tickets and details about this short-term exhibit. Thursdays-Mondays, 10am-5pm

Fremont Fair, now through June 20
The Fremont Fair may be canceled for the second straight year but there are some activities scheduled for those looking for something to do. (Sorry, no parade!) Check out their website for details, including self-guided walking tours, mural paintings, art cars and the traditional Fremont Sunday Market. Saturday, 12-4pm and Sunday, 10am-4pm

South Lake Union Saturday Market, through Sept. 18
After a year off, the SLU Market is back, every Saturday through mid-September. A popular place to spend an hour or two soaking up the music, street food, produce and crafts – all within a few short blocks on 9th Avenue just north of Denny Way at Denny Park. Saturdays, 11am-4pm

Seafair, July 4-Aug. 5
One of Seattle’s great traditions is returning this year with a mix of live and virtual events. Seafair kicks off with a bang – virtually – with Seafair Summer 4th, a rebroadcast (KING-5) of summer fireworks from past events on Lake Union. The Torchlight Parade – with clowns, floats, pirates and parade marshals – will be modified again this year to run through Seattle neighborhoods on a smaller scale. Learn more about Seafair events here – and have fun (safely, or course!).

Dawn Cerny: Les Choses, now through Sept. 26
The Seattle Art Museum is showcasing the works of Dawn Cerny, a multidisciplinary artist based in the city. Her title for this exhibition, Les Choses (French for “Things”), references the 1965 novel by Georges Perec, which follows a young Parisian couple dreaming of the good life in their overstuffed apartment. Friday-Sunday, 10am-5pm

Please check with the venue to confirm times and dates of any in-person events.

In case you missed it….

In between helping clients find their new home or depart from one, I am keeping busy with this newsletter and my Living the Dream blog. I publish one new and (I hope) interesting take on local housing – both serious and light.

In the past four weeks, the blog has looked at Seattle’s newest condo (with video), introduced you to a new John L. Scott program for sellers, offered tips to avoid making DIY mistakes, and looked at the changing guidelines for buyers’ earnest money deposits

We have also recently made updates to portions of the Buyers Guide on topics ranging from home inspection reports to preparing the down payment for closing. And we revised the most-read blog post of all (40,000+ views since 2019) about sellers and their role in responding to requests for repairs from buyers.

Thanks for reading!
