Hello! I hope you are hanging in there in these crazy times! This time of year I often have a lot of tax appeal work which keeps me crazy busy in March. As you might imagine, increases in home prices mean increases in property assessed values.

When you’re working in a home office, you’re less prone to distractions, and you’re more likely to get the things done that you need. A home office really comes in handy. However, if you’re living in a small home, it might be hard to create space for a home office. Thankfully, there are ways to incorporate a home office space into your home, regardless of the size! When you’re thinking about adding a home office to your small living space, you’re going to need a plan. Getting your home ready is crucial for making the perfect home office. Here’s how you can prepare your living space for a home office.
Clean Up and Declutter
Cleaning up, specifically decluttering, is the best way to find out just how much space you have for your office. When you get rid of the things that you don’t need to make room for the things you do, you’ll be surprised to see what really matters. Decluttering is the first thing you should do.
Maximize Your Space
A big part of creating space is maximizing the space you already have. It’s important to use your space wisely. If you’re not, you may think you have less space than what actually exists. Consider getting tall shelving units to help you use space vertically rather than on the floor.
Rearrange Your Rooms
When you’re looking to put in a home workspace, you may need to rearrange your rooms to free up space. Try a variety of different combinations to find what works best for you. You might even find that you can free up an entire room to dedicate to your office space.
Budgeting for a Home Office
Let’s face it, office furniture isn’t cheap. In fact, it tends to be rather expensive. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to get a great home office space, though. Consider the following to help reduce your overall costs.

Measure Twice, Buy Once
In a small space, measuring is crucial. You need to make sure that whatever you plan on buying for your office is going to fit. Measure the area where your furniture will go and compare it to the furniture’s dimensions. This is the best way to make sure everything will fit.
Keep a Professional Appearance
This is especially important if you’re going to be hosting video or in-person meetings. Your furniture should be appropriate, and so should your decor. Often, decor should add to the professional image of your office.
When selecting decor, focus on things that are natural. They’re going to enhance the energy in the room. Often, indoor plants and crystals are great options. Crystals can be a fun addition to any office. They come in stunning colors and unique shapes and draw people in with their beauty and energy. Chances are that you can find the perfect mineral for your office, no matter what image you’re going for.
